Standing on ancient Derry walls waiting

hundred and hundreds of people marching
in muffled anger as black clad priests
tried to hold them back some had sticks
maybe broom handles or spade handles
waving them a contained sea of anger
with no sound they walked to the gates
this is Derry August 9th 1969
